Prompt 43 Supernatural Lust

tumblr_m73yd3ordz1rxekheo1_1280Today’s prompt is supernatural lust. There are no rating restrictions but please make a note if your entry is graphic. This is #7 of 20 the first in the series was Unavoidable Pain. Only one participant seems to be using the prompts to create a story but I thought I’d still give a reminder. I can extend the number if needed so let me know if 20 is insufficient. When this series is completed I will of course continue with the prompts so no worries but I wanted to offer a series for people interested in creating stories.

The most obvious example is the incubus/succubus dynamic

Some people become romantically obsessed with works of art (either the creation and/or the product remember how Pygmalion fell in love with Galatea?)

In some cases the chemistry b/w two people is completely overpowering as to cause madness and obsession

Some people experience an amplified lust for life (some times it’s drug or mania-induced sometimes it comes from a more internal/innocuous source)

Hypersexuality

Zeus and his sexual conquests

Bacchanalia

Vampires and blood lust

The sick twisted lust of serial killers

Prompt 41 Consuming Impatience

sarolta-ban-surreal-4Today’s prompt is consuming impatience which let’s face it in today’s fast-paced gratification-driven society we experience way more often then we should. If you need to connect with the feeling just think back to the dark ages of dial up. When I first got the internet back in ’99 I spent more time waiting to establish a connection then I spent online surfing. I am the first to admit that I am impatient. When I know the time frame I am pretty tolerant even if the wait is long, it’s the not knowing that disturbs me the the most. Some more examples to contemplate

Waiting (traffic jams, doctor’s appointments, inconsiderate dates, waiting for a child to finish eating)

Listening (I love Sam and he is an interesting and highly amusing guy but he takes epic conversational pauses. Often I think he’s finished talking and wander off when he’s still buffering)

Assembling Ikea furniture (actually I love assembling furniture but Sam beats me to it)

Learning something new in a challenging area

You’re hungry and there’s no food in sight (this for me is the worst)

Lust

Tech support I have never called them as I’m married to the IT guy but I hear it is awful

Arguments

An alternative prompt

Consider what your life would be like without the internet. How would you fill your days? What would your social life look like? Would you be more isolated? Did you meet someone special/irreplaceable online that you might not have met? Would you exercise more? Do you spend an unhealthy amount of time online? Or do your friendships online keep you from certain destructive addictions?

Prompt 40 Sheer Wonder

sheerwonderThis week’s prompt is sheer wonder. Immediately I think of childhood the first time you look through a telescope, your first visit to an aquarium, waking up on Christmas morning, ball games etc. Of course adults can experience such moments as well riding in a hot air balloon, reaching the summit after a long hike, visiting a foreign land, viewing a meteor shower, riding in a helicopter, scuba diving the list is endless. Moments of sheer wonder don’t have to coincide with major events, looking at the ocean, taking a walk, reading about a new technology, listening to a TED talk we can experience these extraordinary moments in our ordinary lives as well!

Prompt 39 An Unwanted Reality

tediumpromptThere are some realities which we find particularly unpalatable. Adult responsibilities can kill childhood dreams. Sometimes the pursuit of an ambition or love interest brings out a part of ourselves too hideous to acknowledge. Have you ever developed an unhealthy obsession?  Sometimes our lives appear to us more as a penitentiary than a possibility. Sometimes our job coerces us to behave in a manner we find reprehensible or if nothing else false. Sometimes a relationship breaks us down to such a degree that we become unrecognizable to ourselves. Sometimes an illness or injury destroys our sense of self. An addiction can rob a person of their dignity, their employment, their family everything. Sometimes a single misfortune can demolish a life. Sometimes the loss of a loved one pulls the rug completely out from under our feet. Moving in childhood can be especially traumatic and heart-breaking.

Prompt 37 Unavoidable Pain

unavoidableThis week’s prompt is one of a series I have planned but no worries I will not be asking you to produce a cohesive story/novel utilizing the prompts. If, however, you would like to use the prompts to create a story please feel free to do so. There will be 20 prompts in this series (including this one). As always I accept all forms of self-expression (photographs, stories, poetry, artwork, videos, music etc.). There is no length restriction on your entries and no need to censor on my account (provide warnings at your own discretion).

*

Some examples of unavoidable pain which you are absolutely free to use

Taking up exercise

Medical procedures

Medication

Rescue efforts (ever hurled yourself in the path of a moving object to save someone?)

Job interviews

Raising children

Finding love

Pursuing dreams

Prompt 36 Virtue

virtue Keeping New Year’s in mind this week’s prompt is Virtue.

Just as there are 7 deadly sins, there are 7 virtues and they are

  1. Chastity
  2. Temperance
  3. Charity
  4. Diligence
  5. Patience
  6. Kindness
  7. Humility

Choose one or more for inspiration. You can write about an individual who embodies one or more of these traits. You can write about your own self-improvement efforts. You can share your own personal definitions. You can write about life experiences which are conducive/coercive to the development of one or more of these traits. You can write about situations that push you to the other extreme. For example you might generally be a patient person but holiday shopping might leave you very short-tempered and stressed out.

Happy New Years!

Prompt 35 Holiday Stories

Five-pointed-star-Christmas-ornaments_1280x1024

I was a little uncertain if I should do a prompt with the holidays in full swing but I decided to go for it! This prompt comes to you curtsey of Morpethroad. This week you many find yourself reminiscing about holidays past. Maybe you’re spending the holidays with family and friends who are chalk full of wonderful embarrassing stories about you. Maybe you find yourself nostalgic while elbow deep in a box of festive decorations.  Maybe you find yourself feeling homesick while trying to replicate traditional family dishes. Maybe you find yourself laughing at old photographs and/or videos. This week I invite you to share a story about holidays past.  I say story but of course poems, artwork, cards, music, photos and all other forms of media are welcome.

Happy Holidays everyone!

To Be Loved

broken-heart

Ruined in the act

Of a misplaced martyrdom

My spine collapses

Beneath rhapsodic applause

Like a wooden tower

*

To be loved

To be loved

*

My heart is deaf

She cannot hear

Vacancy calling

I bury myself

Halfway down

The great hibernation

Is upon us

The void of

An unaccountable mourning

Months of delirium and tears

Too shapeless to gather

*

To be loved

To be loved

*

I’ve suffered enough

To furnish a war

Its requisite pathos

I was a goddess once

The kind that appears

Exclusively to one

Despite a subsequent loss

Of following

Without you

She no longer exists

Which is to say “I” have

Nothing exceptional

Now to offer

You created a fortune

Of rusted pennies

To be loved

I would give anything

To feel that way again
