I am the universe playing tricks on itself.
I am the microcosm and the macrocosm.
When faced with my former enormity
I am but a snag in the fabric and yet
Within I still contain the entire tapestry.
On days like these when all I can do
Is contemplate my smallness
I forget my value and in forgetting, dim
Inadvertently my vision of the whole.

For energy there can only be life.
What is murder to the rain likewise
Necessitates it. We are but seeds,
Potentialities sheathed in a porous husk.
What lurks underneath no one knows.
The need to be born is apparent in all of us.
We want to know, to return to our nature
But it is in our nature to explore. In the end
The game, the pieces, and the strategy
Are none other than the player himself.

I may come back to the other challenge 2 lies and a truth but I only just revealed a tremendous amount about myself and so it wouldn’t be so easy to lie to you now lol

Seriously … you have broached a philosophical subject in such a manner and way as to give this piece broad scope and yet personal definition. And there are so many amazing lines that just follow each other … almost like a game of “catch the tail” or “tag” … that I would be cutting and pasting until the sunset on another day.
But ohhh …. this line:

I cannot take full credit for this as I was listening to an Alan Watt’s speech, mostly talks on Zen Buddhism and so the first line really comes from the talk, from a concept in Zen. The line you quoted comes from me though. I find I very much enjoy studying Buddhism. I have been studying it since I was 15. When I was 15 nothing really made sense, I was raised Christian and even if I wasn’t Christian at that point it had been drilled into me and it was a rather radical shift in my thinking, radical but slow very slow lol
Well Buddhism is a life-long journey when and if one chooses to embark on that particular path …. and having been “raised” Christian … well … that too depends on “strictures” ex. I was raised Roman Catholic – and have rallied and railed against it since I was about 15 …. it’s not my cup of tea – if it’s another’s – fine. I have no problem with it – as long as no one tries to “convince” me otherwise. So yes, I can understand how it can be difficult to wrap oneself into the philosophy of something as “openly different” as Buddhism – and I too relate to Buddhism more than most other spiritual practices.
As for not taking full credit – that’s okay too …. but you see, the inspiration still allowed you to create something so wonderful and compelling – and isn’t that where the true beauty rests …. when something moves us and we are able to think or reflect or simply run with the inspiration that strikes? 🙂
I certainly won’t try to convince you because it wasn’t right for me either and in fact I felt it brought out a real darkness in me. He gives great thought-provoking talks. Thanks Pat!
Well … hmmm …. I didn’t mean to imply that you would try to “force” any issues …. because that’s not who you are …. so no worries …. we each walk our paths …. some “further ahead” others (like me) steps behind …. but ultimately, I think …. if we choose awareness …. then we are right where we need to be in the moment. 🙂
