They spin overhead,
Their black feathers
In Reaper’s shroud dressed.
My heart kicks its cage
A terrible music revisited.
This system swallows
All who would validate it.
Remember the coven,
The moon level but intermittent
In a trump of indignant clouds?
Remember the busts
Of the girls we promised to marry?
Remember the dreams which
Proved too solvent to endure
Our myriad distractions?
I am not the same man,
Now it exists a blessing to wait,
To shelter the impatient sighs
Of children who depend
Upon my unconditional resolve.
I was young once, inconsiderate
Happy for my ignorance.
Now I know but not nearly enough.

I’m very hard to shock, Yves! 😛
Wow! Purple underwear, that’s so hippy.
I am a bit hippy lol
Oh my my my–fave phrase: dreams which proved too solvent to endure. WOW! Sometimes you say things exactly the way I always wanted them described to bring sense/meaning/closure… And such a wonderful list of “things about you”!
That is such an incredible compliment! Thank you so very much!
You’re Most Welcome!
Great piece and some insights Yves. Way to go.
Laurie.
Thanks Laurie!
You know. I am not sure what is better, knowing a bit or being able to live in the ignorance of innocence.
The ABCs were fun to get to know a few things I did not know. From Pluto. Ha.
I am not sure either X
Yes Pluto hehe
This is an amazing response to the photo prompt and a fantastic use of the wordle.
I loved the perspective of reading it through the eyes of a man – I think you did an excellent job with the word usage – in capturing a life-link-feeling of “knowing” and change of perspectives as we age.
There are some incredibly powerful stanzas that really stand out – but together – this piece totally sings and sizzles.
“My heart kicks its cage”
“Remember the dreams which
Proved too solvent to endure
Our myriad distractions?”
Stunning Yves – you totally rocked this!
And on a random note: the A-Z was interesting and fun – offering a peek into the writer/woman behind the keyboard 😉
Cheers
Pat
Oh wow thank you so much for your incredibly kind words!
I think you channeled my father.
Those of his generation anyway, would have been in his late 80’s early 90’s now…
All those misconceptions that he tried not to teach, just because they were preached to him. And yet because they were so ingrained fault-lines occasional erupted. I look back and truly believe that he did his best. “Now I know but not nearly enough.”
Thanks Jules and you make a fine point I have seen this struggle myself and have been engaged in it as well
Here’s my Wordle one:

The way it’s hard to pass advice from generation to generation.. alas there are mistakes being repeated
So true Björn!
