Beyond Hope
A precipice is a less daunting prospect
When considered from a diagonal.
I fear the vertical, the head first plunge
From an ambivalent seat.
I treasure these accommodations,
These clouds and crannies so remote
From the happenings of a malicious throng.
–
If an ibis I might nest in pure consciousness
Tending roots in the currents
But I am a stone forged from earth and sea.
From such an atmospheric high
I am likely to shatter under influence
And if not to break than I will surely drown.
–
That is what it means to be human,
These little deaths performed habitually
Behind closed doors, these triumphs
Which sour with recall. I want is not
The meaning of prayer but sequestered
As we are in the ID we cannot but want
Even if it excludes us from grace.

For
I think my fave line is, “I am a stone forged from earth and sea”. Wowza
Thanks Dell XD
Welcome.
Yves such a powerful and thoroughly profound poem….being human can be full of grace but also the devil in us…..
We are full of contradictions lol
every victory over the anguish is a new birth, though the final battle awaits death.
Absolutely Leovi XD

This piece of the poem combines emotions and imagery seamlessly.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Wow! some powerful words and imagery! I loved “If an ibis I might nest in pure consciousness/Tending roots in the currents/But I am a stone forged from earth and sea.” So compelling and gorgeously written!
Oh wow thank you so very much Lori!
You are most welcome!
Great words and imagery!
Thank you Sue!
Beautiful imagery – deep thoughts -great job.
Thank you so much Debi =)
You are so good.
I love this:
“From an ambivalent seat.
I treasure these accommodations,”
Fantastic.
Awww thanks so much!
I really like the part where you talk about how being human is a series of “little deaths behind closed doors.” I saw it as “deaths” being personal tragedies and difficulties which everyone goes through in life… And then overcomes and rises again to “live” on the other side. That part really struck a chord with me ❤️
Amazing photo, too! 🙂
Thank you so much! You understood perfectly =) The photo is for a photo prompt at MLMM if you are interested

Perhaps the damn Id will always get in the way. On the other hand, maybe we need it to keep ourselves from becoming boring. I only know that it insures that I will reincarnate, and I’m not too happy about that!

I just went by for a visit and I did leave a comment so I really hope it got through! I am sorry for all the problems I don’t why Blogger and WordPress have issues with each other
Whew. The last bit on being human being small deaths is my favorite part. I like the allusions to being created of rock and dirt as well. How we shatter. Our wants and desires, we have to be careful – they keep us here in the moment with no thought of tomorrow.
Thanks so much and so true!
Oh, YES to this:
“But I am a stone forged from earth and sea.”
Such a fantastic line.
I loved all of this but especially the beginning lines.
Thanks Candy =)
Really terrific in flow – as each stanza works so well within the other – without – within – and it all caves in? 😉
Brilliantly written and thoughtfully evocative Yves 😀
Thank you wow!
Brilliant! I just tweeted this one 🙂 Loved it!
Awww thanks Belinda =)
