Defiance, an extension of this struggling heart
I never belonged, to myself a malevolent stranger.
In your face, my eyes reflected back raise up my
Defenses. I never meant to abandon you, there
Is a war playing in the hollows of my bones and
Sometimes defeat dawns slowly, you who
Have laid me down broken in the crucible of
Your contagious devotion and rendered me at
Times whole. It is only myself, not our love,
That I fight, this potential tied up in sheep skins
Against myself a wolf, some times you stand
Too close, some times you exhale when I am
Still striving for breath, some times you love
Too much andΒ all I know how to be is alone

“Too much and all I know how to be is alone” – is it wrong to say that these words hurt me nice? in a tune, sort of.
Awww thank you I am not sure but your words are music to my ears =)
Defiance, defenses, defeat…those are the 3 words that really hit me…and then the word “alone” at the end was the sad cherry on top. So sad and beautiful.
Thank you! I make some pretty depressing sundaes lol
Against myself a wolf, some times you stand
Too close, some times you exhale when I am
really liked that section…alone def puts a point on it there in the end as well..
Thank you very much Brian =)
beautiful…your words always say so much nad in a very beautiful way…you write what I feel and am unable to express in such a great way..
I could only say..’You’re smothering me’…
Nothing wrong with being direct despite my poetry I am dense as box of rocks socially and need things to be spelled out clearly lol Thank you so much Grizz you are a sweetheart =)
Sometimes the worst of battles are waged not with others but with ourselves. That is what I take away from your poem this morning, hoping I am on the right track.
You are spot on Mary and indeed they are, unfortunately sometimes other get caught in crossfire
So melancholy… great job with the prompt. I’ve been struggling with this one as I didn’t even know what the picture was LOL I see from comments above it is from a rock garden so that helps π
I am glad they did help =) Thank you I found the photo very inspiring even if I went an odd direction
